About Atlas

An agent that lives where you already work

Atlas is an open, terminal-native AI coding agent. It plans, edits, and ships from your shell, on your machine, with your own models.

Why Atlas exists

AI coding tools keep pulling developers out of the place they actually work. Into a browser tab, a web editor, a chat window that cannot see the repo. Atlas is the opposite bet. The terminal is where real work already happens, so the agent should live there too.

Atlas plans before it edits, shows every diff, and runs each tool behind a permission you choose. It reads your stack, your conventions, and your git history, then writes changes that look like yours. No magic, no surprise edits, no leaving the keyboard.

It is open and extensible on purpose. Plugins, themes, and Model Context Protocol servers let you shape Atlas around your work instead of the other way around. You bring the models and the machine. Atlas is the place you use them.

What we believe

The convictions behind the product

Every decision in Atlas comes back to these. They are why the agent is shaped the way it is.

Terminal-native

A first-class TUI that lives in your shell. The agent meets you where you already work instead of dragging you into a browser.

Your data is yours

Atlas runs on your machine with your own model keys. Your code and prompts never touch our servers. We hold billing, never your work.

Bring your own models

Run open-source or frontier models on your own compute. We build the place to use them well; you choose the brain behind the work.

You stay in control

Plans before edits, every diff shown, every tool call gated by a permission mode you set. Nothing changes without your say-so.

Open and extensible

An open-source core, plus plugins and MCP servers. Shape Atlas around your stack rather than bending your stack around it.

Own your tools

Buy once and own your version forever, or subscribe per seat for your team. No rent-seeking on your usage, no lock-in on your data.

Private by construction

We build the place. You keep the data.

Atlas is private AI by design, not by policy. Because it runs on your compute with your own keys, there is nothing of yours for us to host, log, train on, or resell. We sell the software, never your work.

Who builds it

Built by Syntora

Atlas is built by Syntora, a software studio that ships AI and web systems for teams that need them to actually work in production. We built Atlas as the tool we wanted for our own engineering, then opened it up. It is our flagship and our daily driver.
